Samsung’s old wearable devices won’t work with Galaxy S21 series: report

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S21 series in January. The new Galaxy S21 smartphones wouldn’t work with a bunch of Samsung smartwatches and fitness trackers. These devices will still be supported on older Samsung phones, but not on the new Galaxy S21 series.

According to a report from the Galaxy Club, older Samsung smartwatches and fitness trackers will not be compatible with the Galaxy S21 series. The list includes Samsung Galaxy Gear, Galaxy Gear 2, Galaxy Gear 2 Neo, Galaxy Gear S, and Galaxy Gear Fit. The report adds that these devices will continue to work for Samsung smartphones launched to date, including the Galaxy S20 series.

It wouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Samsung decided to end the compatibility of old portable devices with the new Galaxy S21 series. Most of the portable devices listed are quite old, like the Galaxy Gear 2 which launched in 2014. So if you have any of these portable devices and are considering buying the Galaxy S21, you might want to also consider a newer smart watch.

The Galaxy S21 series is expected to launch a month earlier this time around, specifically on January 14. Samsung’s flagship series will include the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 +, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. The new Galaxy S21 smartphones are expected to feature a design similar to the Galaxy Note 20 series with a big camera bump. Along with the usual specification upgrades, the Galaxy S20 Ultra would launch with S Pen support signaling the end of the Note series.
